The Port of Spain Corporation's Christmas Concert featuring the Bishop Anstey High School Choir took place on Tuesday 5th December 2006, at City Hall, Port of Spain. This concert sought to add to the Christmas spirit by highlighting the musical talents of the students of Bishop Anstey High School. Specially invited guests were invited to join in the festivities.
Councillor Loraine Alexander welcomed all to His Worship the Mayor's Annual Christmas Concert where the Mayor serenades guests in commemoration of the season. According to Mrs. Alexander, the Bishop Anstey High School Choir was selected to serenade the Mayor's guests because of its magnificence over the years including the fact that it received the coveted Prime Minister's award for the past 10 years and was victorious in the Music Festival this year.
His worship, the Mayor of Port of Spain, Mr. Murchison Brown brought greetings to all his guests and thanked them for choosing to share in the experience.
After the Mayor's welcome, Ms. Loraine Granderson, the choir mistress of the Bishop Anstey High School Choir and her students sang popular Parang tunes and other well-loved Christmas carols. Some of the members of the Choir also displayed another talent in playing the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago, the Steelpan.
At the end of the performances by the choir, Councillor Janice Wallace-Henry presented the vote of thanks. She congratulated Ms. Granderson for an excellent job with the students who, after singing and playing the pan, put the audience in a festive mood.
The Mayor presented a token in the form of a cheque from "The Mayor's Fund" to the choir and ended the ceremony by wishing all a happy and holy Christmas.
