On Easter Monday, 9th April, 2007, the residents of Duncan and Nelson Streets and environs in collaboration with the local government representative of the area, Councillor Denise Aleong-Thomas, celebrated their annual Easter Bonnet Parade at the Duncan Street community basketball court, Port of Spain. More than thirty pageanteers, many of whom had taken part in the parade from City Hall to the Brian Lara Promenade just a few days earlier and several other Easter Bonnet pageants, turned out to participate in the parade.

Mrs. Aleong-Thomas, head of the Easter Bonnet Parade, together with the supporting residents, proudly showcased the crafty creations, complete with flowers, eggs, fruits and stuffed rabbits beautifully adorned on the attire of the participants. The pageanteers beamed with pride as they paraded in front of the judges, their parents and supporting siblings in the small audience.

The kiddies looked like miniature adults from the 18th century. Their fashions resembled the elaborate and sumptuous attire of the aristocracy back then: bonnets, bodices, open gowns, petticoats, folding fans, ferreting at the brim of their hats, gloves, jackets, pearl jewelry, parasols, cancans and tight-laced corsets.

Parents were very proud to see their children on stage with their costumes. Although most found comfort from the heat and sun under the shaded tents, others surrounded the stage to cheer and encourage the especially shy children to present themselves before the judges. Others, curious about the day's happenings, stood outside the court or looked on from their apartments.
