The Mayor of Rotenburg, Mr. Detlef Eichinger was presented with the Key to the City of Port of Spain on Thursday 22nd February, 2007, at the Port of Spain City Hall, after the Corporation's monthly statutory meeting.

During February's edition of their monthly meeting, they discussed several major issues on the Council's agenda including notices of obituaries and several other reports. Also, many received congratulations by the Mayor and their other colleagues for the work done during the 2007 Carnival season. Others recognized for their work were the city engineers and the CEPEP workers who cleaned the city as well as the city police personnel who, according to the Mayor, helped make the streets safer.

According to Mayor Murchison Brown, this year's Carnival was an overall success. However, a few complaints such as the dumping of waste on Chacon Street by one of the band's trucks, which he described as unfortunate, and the complaints by smaller bands about the trailers of the larger bands that had them virtually motionless for long periods of time, tainted the picture.

Present for the meeting and the brief ceremony that followed were Supt. LeeRoy Stephens, Superintendent of the Municipal Police, Port of Spain; Deputy Head of Mission and Consul to Trinidad and Tobago (Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany), Dr. Achim Umstaatter; the wife of the Mayor of Rotenburg, Mrs. Claudia Eichinger; and some students from the St. James Government Secondary School who got to observe first-hand the processes involved in such a meeting.

Mayor Murchison Brown expressed what a great honour it was to have the Mayor of Rotenburg, Mr. Detlef Eichinger, in his presence, especially since Rotenburg, Germany was where the Soca Warriors were guests for the World Cup 2006 and made history. Thus, Mayor Brown saw it fitting to pay tribute to the Mayor of Rotenburg by presenting him with the Key to the City of Port of Spain as well as another token of appreciation.

The Mayor of Rotenburg, Mr. Detlef Eichinger, expressed that it was a great honour for him and by extension the City of Rotenburg to be received so warmly by the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago and to receive such a stately token. According to Mr. Eichinger, it was a dream of the people of Rotenburg to be a host to the Soca Warriors and similarly a dream for the Soca Warriors to be there in Germany to play in the World Cup tournament. He jokingly added that both countries had many similarities including the tendency to be punctual, which was an obvious satirical comment.

Mr. Eichinger also added that the three weeks that the Trinidad and Tobago football contingent spent in Germany was a period that they, the Germans, would never forget and both himself and his wife were equally thrilled to experience a similar pleasure in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Mayor of Rotenburg further made his mark indelible in the country by signing the Corporation's guest book and his wife, Mrs. Claudia Eichinger was presented with a token of appreciation on behalf of the women of Port of Spain.
