Coates Brothers Limited launched the new line of Sun Chemical Products on Wednesday 10th October, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza in Port of Spain. Sun Chemical Marketing Vice President Alfonso Paredes, joined General Manager Peter Mosodeen, employees of Coates Brothers and their clients in this celebratory event. Sun Chemical Limited is a global leader in inks and pigments with a strong focus in the areas of packaging, publication, commercial printing, paint coating and color marketing. They are a leading provider of materials and services to the plastic, cosmetic, publication and other industrial markets as their solvent and water-based inks are suited towards various paper, foil, paperboard, flexible film and folding carton applications.

General Manager Peter Mosodeen kicked-off the launch by welcoming employees and guests as he went on to remark that the range of products and services that the company is offering will be of benefit to clients. The informational brochures that were given to guests demonstrated the vivid colours that are the result of the Sun Chemical inks.

The Coates Brothers team consisting of General Manager Peter Mosodeen, Technical Manager Suzetta Ali as well as members of the sales department, accounts and production department, were also introduced to the clients. The full team includes Solange Gomes, Yvette Del Pino, Brenda Payson, Anthony Boodramsingh, Vidya Madoo, Sparkle Balbos and the production unit of Prakash Baber, Hudlyn Emily, Pernell Samuel and Robert Fernandez.

Sun Chemical Marketing Vice President Alfonso Paredes, in his detailed and technical presentation, explained that Sun Chemicals produces its own ink pigments and some of the applications of the inks can be seen in cars, contact lenses, CDs, lipstick, packages and magazines. He explained some of the challenges facing commercial printers and the benefits of the new line of Sun Chemical inks which would help printers deal with these challenges. The three new Sun Chemical inks systems: WideStar, Pantone-56 and Toplith West have been produced after almost three years of research and development. These inks would cover the needs of small and large printers and Alfonso Paredes remarked that the inks were rigorously tested by printers who reported quality performances with excellent transfer and ink-water balance, and the stability needed for high-speed printing.

Alfonso Paredes in a brief interview further explained the new line, formulated in their Brazilian mother-plant, has been launched in Mexico, Columbia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and now in Trinidad and Tobago. Sun Chemicals, he expressed, is here to stay and the public can expect high quality products and services.

According to information brochures presented at the launch, the new generation of premium WideStar inks has, as its main characteristics, high transfer, excellent balance with the dampening solution and stability at high speeds. Its composition allows optimum penetration, high rub resistance on a wide range of substrates and excellent gloss. Less waiting time for finishing processes allows for decreased use of anti-setoff powder.

The Toplith West ink system is a sheet-fed product line that has been specially formulated for application in macro porous substrates. This versatile system can be used on a variety of presses. The Pantone-56 ink system features a combination of fast penetration, high gloss and good rub resistance that can be applied to coated and uncoated stocks. These two systems are a less expensive alternatives to the WideStar ink system.

After the presentation, door prizes were presented to lucky clients who won Latin American wine and chocolate as well as a high-tech Ipod music player which was the grand prize. Coates Brothers employees and clients sipped non-alcoholic wine and sampled the scrumptious refreshment offerings as they took group photos and intermingled. Guests, many of whom are in the printing industry, took the opportunity to chat with Alfonso Paredes and the other employees.

From the balcony of the the twelfth floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, where the launch was held, there was a beautiful view of the sunset: a fiery and crimson display that provided a beautiful and spectacular closing to the event.
