J&J's Unisex Salon, under the leadership of Jennifer Rostant, held their first annual Miss Summerfest 2008 Pageant at the Naparima Bowl in San Fernando on Friday 22nd August, 2008. This pageant has as its aim to promote and encourage the beauty, talent and knowledge of Trini women. Titled 'Ten Dreams One Crown', the show featured six young girls vying for the inaugural title and was dedicated to the memory of the late Glen Adams, make-up artist extraordinaire who has contributed immensely towards training people in the industry. Glen Adams passed away twelve years ago.

Deron Griffith and Feron Rostant got the show rolling with a creative dance. In the audience was the Acting Mayor of San Fernando, Malika Blair, who delivered remarks on behalf of the City of San Fernando. Malika commended the young ladies for their participation in the pageant and highlighted the role of the pageant in helping to build talent and self esteem.

The first delegate segment was the Introduction where the girls introduced themselves as Tanyka Ramlakhan, Soowan Bramble, Laura Bahadur, Dana Baptiste, Dana Darcel Simon and Jilisa Baptiste. Also introduced were the judges for the evening: Shelly-Ann Mitchell, Christopher Nathan, Norma Clarke, Lystra Nurse, Valerie Green and Julia Stewart.

The second delegate segment was the Swimsuit Segment where all the delegates modeled identical swimsuits designed by the fashion house Inn Collection.

The third segment was the Evening Gown Segment where the delegates showcased gowns with such names as "Caribbean Splendor", "Tropical Paradise", "My Fairy Tale", "Golden Sunset"," Simply Sexy" and "All That Glitters Must Be Gold". Kudos should be directed towards the designers for the high quality of the gowns.

Colin Mills demonstrated his vocal talent as he serenaded the delegates, giving each of them a bouquet of flowers, to the delight of the audience.

When the results were announced it was Jilisa Baptiste who was crowned the first ever Miss Summerfest Queen edging Dana Darcel Simon and Dana Baptiste into second the third place respectively. Jilisa wore an exquisite evening gown designed by Joanne Jordan of Contours Designs. In the special prizes Laura Bahadur copped the Most Improved and Most Photogenic Awards, while Soowan Bramble swept the titles for Best Physique, Best Hairstyle and Best Evening Gown. Soowan's winning gown was designed by Annastacia Jackie of the VIP Collection.
