The Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project (FACRP) hosted their 13th annual Gayap (which means to lend hands) in St. Ann's Fondes Amandes hills on Friday 20th March, 2009. Geared towards school children, the Gayap involved sensitization towards environment and agriculture and a hands-on tour of the Fondes Amandes project where schools participated in agricultural and environmental activities. Members of the FACRP shared their knowledge and experience with the youngsters ensuring another successful Gayap event. The Fondes Amandes Community Re-Forestation Project is focused largely on environmental issues, but also on the social issues which are interconnected with environmental degradation. The underlying objective of the project is the development of the community and the upliftment of its residents through environmentally enhancing activity.

Akilah Jaramogi of FACRP in a brief interview with Triniview.com remarked that it was a very special day all about working together and preserving the bio-diversity. According to Akilah, the Gayap from its inception has been very successful in preventing forest fires that previously plagued the area. She further highlighted the importance of passing on information to young people and getting them involved in environmental awareness.

During the opening ceremony, the Jaramogi Cultural Drummers led by Maximilla Jaramogi treated the audience to African drumming while the Talparo RC School was impressive with their tamboo bamboo performance. Certificates were presented to members of the FACRP for completion of an Animal Husbandry Course, while presentations were also made to the schools participating in the Gayap. There was also literature on agriculture, the environment and the work of the FACRP as well as exquisite jewelry made from natural materials.

Schools participating in the Gayap included Bishops Anstey High School, Bishops Junior School, Trinity College, Cascade Junior Servol Life Center, Talparo RC School and Final Generation Mission Academy.
