The correct and swift propagation of information was the recurrent theme in the re-launch of PNM's website: www.pnm.org.tt, on Tuesday 15th August, 2006. This website was said to be an improvement of the original website and promised better service and great things to look forward to.

The formal launch began with the National Anthem and the opening invocation and was immediately followed by the introduction of the proceedings by the Master of Ceremonies, Ambassador Jerry Narace, Chairman of the Public Relations Committee. He intimated that it was a glorious occasion and indeed year, as the People National Movement celebrates its 50th year anniversary as a political party in 2006, which was described as a crowning achievement. Mr. Narrace, in his introductory statement, stressed that information is an important key to development and the accessibility of it would be made easier via the Internet; hence the development of the PNM's website.

The official welcome was given by Ambassador John Donaldson, Party Vice Chairman. He declared that this day was of great significance with the re-launch of the Party's website and that it would be an aid to education and a way to put to rest some of the misconceptions of the PNM.

He, in his address, also hinted at the idea of proportional representation as a form of consociational democracy in line with the goal of constitutional reform, which would be some of the content that would be detailed on the website.

Mr. Brian Manning, son of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Mr. Patrick Manning, then provided an overview of the website. He principally stated that the website was redesigned for the proper dissemination of information and to become more in line with the party's objectives. Some of the content of the website includes: the history of the party, the Vision 20/20 Plan, a copy of the Trinidad and Tobago Constitution, calendar of events and much more.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Mr. Patrick Manning then provided brief remarks. He expressed that over the past 50 years there has been no political party like the PNM. He further stressed that there was a covenant established between itself, the party, and the people of this country which included a vision for the people. This vision, according to the Prime Minister had evolved over the years from a more politically-oriented agenda to the Vision 20/20 Plan which represents part of the economic agenda of the PNM. This vision for the country includes the improved accessibility to information and the proper and the speedy dissemination of this information, which was the main goal of improving the website. He claimed that the website is a conscious part of the PNM to correct their weakness in properly sending out information to the people and using the tools of modern technology to do so.

Also, the Prime Minister used the forum to discuss the housing development in Trinidad and Tobago, arguing that it was one of the most ambitious programmes in the country, the Caribbean and perhaps the world.

Ms. Laurel Lezama gave the vote of thanks, thanking all involved in the development of the website, the Public Relations Committee, Chairman of the website's subcommittee, Mr. Brian Manning and others deserving of such praise.

After the official recognition of the website by the PNM on this day, it is left to see if the site lives up to all it was accredited to be.
