The royals arrive and view UWI's 60th Anniversary Exhibition

The University of the West Indies received Prince of Wales, Charles Philip Arthur George and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall on Wednesday 5th March, 2008. UWI celebrates sixty years of being an institution and this anniversary has coincided with the year of Prince Charles' birth, which was also celebrated. The British Royals are visiting the Caribbean as part of their campaign to bring environmental awareness and are said to leave Trinidad and Tobago on 6th March to head to St. Lucia.

The couple made their way through the JFK Quadrangle looking at the exhibition that the university body had laid out for them. Photographs of the royal family, scenes around the campus as well as information about UWI's history were on display.

The royal couple was invited to view the G Pan - the latest innovation to the Steelpan instrument. They were invited to hit a note or two, which they did, much to the delight of the crowd.
The royals witness a theatrical sketch
Following this, the couple was led under the tents to witness a theatrical sketch put on by the Centre for Creative and Festival Arts who dramatically attempted to depict climate change.

Prince Charles and his wife were then presented with tokens of appreciation from Professor Clement Sankat, Pro Vice Chancellor and Campus Principal, on behalf of the St. Augustine university campus. Shortly after the royals departed, but not before mingling with some of the university staff and with university students and students from other primary and secondary schools.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) followed the British royal couple to Trinidad and Tobago to protest the killing of black bears for making palace guards' hats. They will continue their protest in St. Lucia, Jamaica and Montserrat as the British Royals visit these countries.
