The Cake Decorators Association of Trinidad and Tobago held their fifth annual Cake Decorating Competition and Tea Party at the St. Michael's Parish Hall in Diego Martin on Sunday 24th August, 2008. Fancily decorated cakes of all sizes, shapes and colors adorned the specially laid out tables in the hall as members of the Cake Association, as well as their friends and family, gathered for the programme that included entertainment by several individuals and groups.

According to Marva Peltier, President of the Cake Decorators Association of Trinidad and Tobago, the first edition of the Cakes for All Occasions event was so successful last year that they decided to repeat the theme this year. She praised the cake decorators in this year's competition for the high quality of the cakes on show and highlighted that one of the aims of her organisation is to extend the work of the organisation to areas all around Trinidad and Tobago.

Cake decorators entered their cakes in four categories: Novelty, Specialty, Floral and Wedding Cake. There were exquisitely designed cakes with such names as "Here Comes the Bridal Bouquet" and "An Evening with the Lords and Ladies" in the Wedding Cake Category. In the Novelty Category, there was the carefully made cake designed as a Moet and Chandon wine bottle, complete with the labels. There was cake designed in the form of a Scrabble board, with the words icing, gum paste, sweets and cakes filled in. There was a cake fashioned in the design of a bouquet of anthurium flowers, and a cake in the shape of a hat, titled "Hats Off To You". There was even a cake designed in tribute to Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Silver Medallist Richard Thompson titled "Lets Celebrate: A Tribute to Richard Thompson."

In the Specialty Category there were more interesting cakes. One cake was titled "Relaxation Park" and took the form of a park, filled with greenery, trees, flowers and benches. There was also a white multi-domed castle, a colourful bouquet of flowers and a doll dressed in bridal wear. These cakes made using fondant and gum paste highlighted the creativity and ingenuity of the designers and, as such, the designers fully deserved the praise given to them.

The afternoon was not all about cakes, however, as patrons enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment which included songs, dance and fashion while socializing, sipping tea and enjoying the other refreshments on hand. The Pepper Steppers, a three member, all-girl group heated up the stage with their Hip Hop inspired dance that included acrobatics and some of the latest dance moves.

The entertainment flowed with the Treasury Singers who rendered "Love is in the Air" before going on to the popular Taurus Riley song "She's Royal". Anthony of the Treasury Singers would return to the stage and have the audience dancing and singing along to his song "Can't Get Enough of Your Love". Another Treasury singer, Leslie Alexander, unleashed his powerful vocals on the appreciative audience as they applauded loudly in response. Also performing for the audience were singers Marissa and Daniella Carimbocas who rendered several Gospel flavoured songs, Carol Westfield who sang a Calypso titled "Formula For Success" and Shawn Bridgewater who touched the audience with his sign language dance to the music of two popular songs.
