In celebration of 46 years of political Independence of Trinidad and Tobago a special public concert was held last Friday 29th August, 2008 in Woodford Square, Port of Spain. Titled 'A Gift to the Nation', the concert featured the Divine Orchestra band as well as dancers from the National Ballroom Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NBATT). Given the occasion, the dancers as well as many members of the public came out in the national colours of red, white and black.

While veteran comedian Errol Fabien had the crowd in stitches with his jokes and stories, it was the Divine Echoes Band who really shone on the afternoon. With a full complement of musicians, they thrilled the crowd with their varied selection of Calypso, R&B, Gospel, Reggae and Chutney songs. Their frontline singers were particularly impressive, evoking appreciative applause from the audience.

Among the songs performed by the band were the Reggae song "She's Royal", Denyse Plummer's "Nah Leaving", "Walk Away from Love", Lord Nelson's "Meh Lover", Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry", the Hindi song "Suhani Raat", "Natural Woman", "Step in the Name of Love", "August Town" "Maria Elena" and Rootsman's "Rack Me". As the orchestra delivered these sterling renditions, couples from National Ballroom Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NBATT) twirled and demonstrated their dance moves on stage to the appreciative audience which included Prime Minister Patrick Manning.
