History seemed to have repeated itself on Sunday 6th August, 2006, when the Malick and Picton Folk Performers re-enacted the birth of the steelpan in front of supporters gathered at the Eastern Main Road, Laventille, for the Laventille Steelband Festival.

President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. George Maxwell Richards, the First Lady, Dr. Jean Ramjohn-Richards and Senator, the Honourable Joan Yuille-Williams, Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, who had formally opened the proceedings, enjoyed the performance as well as the sweet sound of the traditional steelbands. Before they made their exit, they heard the conventional band, Harmonites, perform the Merhant's "Caribbean Connection" and "Bongo Man" before they left.

Also present were the Minister of Public Utilities and the Environment, Mrs. Penelope Beckles and Junior Culture Minister, Mr. Eddie Hart who came to show their support and were rewarded with the engaging performance of Exodus.

This festival, which was a part of the community's Emancipation celebrations, was supported by thousands who had filled the streets to enjoy the sweet music.

The bands came from as far east as Tunapuna, in the case of Exodus, and as far west as Diego Martin represented by Merry Tones.

Bands who participated at Laventille were the Exodus Steel Orchestra playing Ella Andall's "Rhythm of a People" and "Max it Up" among other tunes, the Trinidad East Side Steel Orchestra, Uni-Stars, Harlem Syncopators, Nostrand Symphony, Woodbrook Brimblers, Laventille Serenaders, Pan Knights, Merry Tones, Bar 22, East Side Symphony, Renegades, Tokyo Youths, Blue Diamonds, Hi Larks Steel Orchestra, Curepe Sforzata, Pan Jammers Steel Orchestra, Angostura Woodbrook Playboyz, Phase II Pan Groove, Sound Specialists of Laventille, Trinidad All Stars and Highlanders Steel Orchestra.
