SACO-TTYP presents its First Annual Youth Scholarship Recital

St. Augustine Chamber Orchestra and Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic (SACO-TTYP) First Annual Youth Scholarship Recital presents An Evening of Classical Music featuring Principal Cellist Wasia Ward with guest performances by The Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic - October 02, 2011.

Wasia Ward has been the Principal Cellist of the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic for the past three years. She began playing under the tutelage of De Lamo Bekele, Kenneth Listhrop, and Andres Herrera of Venezuela. She has been playing the cello for the past five years, attaining Certificates of Merit both Practical and Theory Grade 8 from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London. Wasia attended cello workshops in Caracas Venezuela, and performed with a combined orchestra of Latin American and Caribbean countries, under the baton of Venezuela's highly acclaimed Gustavo Dudamel. She was also a First Place Winner in the 2009 Annual Music Festival, going on to the Championship. She continues to mentor younger cellists for SACO/TTYP, and regularly participates in gigs for corporate and private functions. Wasia will be the first recipient of SACO/TTYP's scholarship award. She has been awarded a partial scholarship from the prestigious Berklee College of Music-Boston, USA.
