Kaiso House Calypso Tent Judging Night 2016

On Monday 18th January, 2016, TUCO’s central executive calypso tent, Kaiso House, was visited by the National Calypso Monarch judging panel for the preliminary round of judging. A cast of twenty-three calypsonians vied for a place in the semi-final round of the competition. This event took place at the tent’s seasonal home base, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

Kaiso Showcase Judging Night 2016

On Friday 15th January, 2016, TUCO’s south zone calypso tent, Kaiso Showkase, was visited by the National Calypso Monarch judging panel for the preliminary round of judging. A cast of twenty-three calypsonians vied for a place in the semi-final round of the competition.

Memorial Service for Asami Nagakiya

Asami Nagakiya, a thirty-year-old professional musician from Japan who had been coming to Trinidad for seven years to play the steelpan, was murdered during the 2016 Carnival celebrations. Her body was discovered on Ash Wednesday in the Queen’s Park Savannah near the Queen’s Royal College.

Desperadoes 2016 Victory Celebration: ”Nobody Badder Than We”

On Sunday 14th February, 2016, the 2016 National Panorama champions of Trinidad & Tobago, WITCO Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, proudly presented their trophy to Laventille residents during a motorcade throughout the community starting from Picadilly Street. This band now has eleven Panorama titles making it the band with the most titles in the history of the National Panorama Competition. This year also marked the fiftieth anniversary since the band’s first victory in 1966.

Kalypso Revue Tent Judging Night 2016

On Saturday 16th January 2016, the Kalypso Revue Tent Judging Night was hosted at the Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union (SWWTU) Hall on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain. The tent, which is managed by veteran calypsonian Michael “Sugar Aloes” Osuna, was filled with enthusiastic lovers of the calypso art form.

Roots at Forty

On Saturday 9th January, 2016, loyal supporters of the band formerly known as Charlie’s Roots and the Rapso band 3Canal joined Soca music giant, Pelham Goddard and Roots, in celebrating their fortieth anniversary in the music business. This event, themed “Roots at Forty: Their Carnival Story”, was produced by JVMP (Junior, Vonrick, Malcolm, Pelham) Promotions in collaboration with Hotel Normandie. It was held Under the Trees at Hotel Normandie, St. Ann’s Port of Spain, from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The artistes featured included David Michael Rudder, Roger George, 3Canal, Moricia Cagan and Nigel O’Connor.

Yoplait, Vita Coca Jump Rope Open Championships

On Saturday 21st November, 2015, students from the Diamond Vale Government Primary School jumped, hopped and skipped their way to victory winning the grand prize of five thousand dollars and a challenge trophy in the Yoplait, Vita Coca Jump Rope Open Championships themed “Fix it with Tricks”.

Noble Douglas Dance Company presents ‘Threshold’

The Noble Douglas Dance Company Incorporated (NDDCI) presented “Threshold” on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October, 2015, at Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s Port of Spain at 7.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. respectively as a continuation of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

On Thursday 29th October, 2015, the Globe cinema, located on the corner of Park and St. Vincent streets, Port of Spain, was teeming with calypsonians both young and old, musicians, their guests and lovers of the calypso art-form for the TUCO Calypso Gala 2015.

Police Men Can Cook Competition 2015

On Saturday 03rd October, 2015, the North West region, under the auspices of the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Carlisle Huggins of the Western Division, hosted its first annual “Police Men Can Cook” competition aimed at building comradeship amongst fellow officers and strengthening police-community relations.
