South Africa’s Freedom Day 2015
On Monday 27th April, 2015, the High Commission of South Africa to Trinidad and Tobago joined the rest of the world in celebrating Freedom Day in South Africa. This occasion, which took place at the Cascadia Hotel, St. Ann’s, marked the twenty-first anniversary of the country’s first elections where all persons of the voting age of eighteen years and older, regardless of race, could exercise their right to vote.
“Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition Press Conference
On Wednesday 15th April, 2015, the Chinese Embassy to Trinidad and Tobago, the Confucius Institute at UWI, the Chinese Association of Trinidad and Tobago, the China Society of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Trinidad and Tobago Chinese Chamber of Commerce, held a joint press conference at the headquarters of the Chinese Association of Trinidad and Tobago in St. Ann’s, Port of Spain, for the preliminary competition of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition 2015.
Shouter Baptist Liberation Day Celebrations 2015
On March 30th, 2015, Trinidad and Tobago celebrated Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day.
Spiritual Shouter Baptists from all over the country as well as those from neighbouring Caribbean islands, the United States of America and Africa, came to join Archbishop Barbara Gray-Burke at Empowerment Hall, Maloney, to celebrate the occasion.
The Art Society of Mt. Hope – Rhapsody in Blue
The Art Society of Mt. Hope held their third annual Art Gala titled ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ on Saturday April 4th, 2015 at the Teaching Resource Centre at UWI St Augustine. The theme of the event was a throwback to the 1920s and 1930s ‘Great Gatsby’ era and involved a diverse display of art from both up and coming and experienced artists.

TUCO’s 2014 Annual Boat Ride Party
On Saturday 08th November 2014, the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) held its annual Boat Ride Party on the Coral Vision as the crowning close to Calypso History Month. Attendees included calypsonians and lovers of the art-form including TUCO President, Mr. Lutalo ‘Brother Resistance’ Masimba.

Ray Funk in Calypso Craze: 1956-57 and Beyond
On Sunday 25th January, 2015, the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival featured retired judge and Carnival researcher, Ray Funk in Calypso Craze: 1956-57 and Beyond at NALIS. His presentation featured a lengthy discussion about the history of the Calypso Craze interspersed with several video clips of calypsonians, American actors and other musicians who were part of this trend.
